Linemen usually end up with three kinds of bags:
- Gear bag / backpack for your belt, hooks, and boots. Look for a gaff-proof bottom or pocket and room for gaff guards.
- Bucket bag that hangs on the bucket lip to keep hand tools organized at height.
- Canvas drag bag / bucket for hauling small material up the pole. It shows up on some apprentice tool lists.
What to look for
- Heavy-duty fabric and a reinforced bottom
- A separate compartment for climbers (always guard your gaffs)
- Ventilation for sweaty gear
- Fit for your truck or locker
